A Yankee's Musing

Made History

ice out early
eating the banks of the rivers
inside out
surging over and through
marking a new course to follow
not a Robert Frost moment
of roads not taken
no cognizance needed
to move beyond the usual
to create extraordinary moments.

first of spring

frost gives way to morning dew
crocuses nuzzle grains of soil aside
bumps emerge along tree branches
daylight lasts a bit longer
warm days and chilly nights
six month checks instead of three.

old enemies remain in place
no ground gained
none given.

southerly breezes replace arctic flow
green carpets replace the browns
softer smells
louder sounds
my window open
to whatever comes.

but something's amiss
tests me to renew
my vigilance
but spring arrived today
I will leave tomorrows
to tomorrow.
